About SEABA
The South End Arts and Business Association (SEABA) was founded in 1986 under the name of Greater Pine Street Business Association, by a group of artists and businesses owners who shared the entrepreneurial spirit that characterizes the South End of today. Though with a different name, the on-going goal of SEABA is promoting the community and economic vitality of the South End of Burlington.
As more and more artists and business owners moved to the South End in search of affordable rental spaces, the South End has grown to accommodate what is now the largest concentration of incubator businesses per square mile in the entire State of Vermont.
With such a high concentration of artists and entrepreneurs, it is only logical that SEABA promotes the Fusion of Culture and Commerce in the name of fulfilling its mission, as best embodied by The South End Art Hop—an event that SEABA has been organizing for the last 18 years.
Our Mission
The South End Arts and Business Association enhances the economic vitality and eclectic mix of Burlington's arts and business community in the area south of Main Street by:
- Promoting our unique blend of art, commerce, industry and entrepreneurial spirit;
- Providing an influential voice to promote and ensure our members' common interests;
- Informing our members of issues that affect our community and the actions we take on its behalf.
The South End Art Hop
For the past 18 years SEABA has presented a remarkable exhibition of visual art: the South End Art Hop.
The Art Hop is a two-day event occurring on the weekend following the Labor Day holiday. It attracts over 30,000 visitors, the majority from outside Burlington. Visitors are attracted to the South End artist's studios, and local businesses that are refit as art galleries and exhibition sites for the more than 500 participating artists. The event celebrates the unique characteristics of the Pine Street corridor, in particular the development of concentrated creative and artistic activity that has been established in numerous re-purposed factories and warehouses within the District.
