Ode to Bruce

After 23 years of dedicated and continuous service, Bruce Seifer, a founding member of The South End Arts and Business Association, has retired from its Board in June of this year.

Started in 1986, and originally known as the Greater Pine Street Business Association, this organization which started as an idea in the minds of a few people involved in the part of Burlington which has come to be known as “the South end,” has developed into a major force behind the development and promotion of the visual arts in Vermont, and an oft sited example of success in harnessing the energy released from the fusion of commerce and culture frequently referred to as “The Creative Economy.”

As one of the original visionaries of what the South End of Burlington could become, Bruce Seifer, along with other founding members of SEABA, was crucial in implementing the ideas that have moved this neighborhood forward, and his legacy is palpable throughout the all of the projects in which SEABA has been engaged over more than two decades.

From a “Pine Street is paved” party, to the 17th Annual South End Art Hop, Bruce has given to SEABA, its constituents, and the community-at-large, the foundation from which “social capital” in the South End, can continue growing and making our neighborhood the place in which we (and now nearly everyone) proudly want to live and work.

Thank you Bruce for your leadership, vision and your inspiration! You have been a part of it all.
