Welcome to our World

Welcome to the South End of Burlington, Vermont

Here in our neighborhood, post-industrial manufacturing plants now house the largest concentration of start-up businesses and artists’ studios in the State of Vermont. Where we once manufactured plastic filaments and cereal, we now create web sites, innovative marketing ideas, photography and art.

We also have a vibrant retail mix that includes a chocolate factory, bakeries, a flagship snowboard store, handmade bowls and numerous home improvement showrooms featuring furniture, lamps, appliances, kitchen and bath fixtures, lumber, flooring and more.

The Art Hop is to the South End what an agricultural fair is to a farming community, or what a heritage festival is to an ethnic neighborhood. The Art Hop is a singular expression of who we are as a community and a thousand statements about what we value about living and working in Vermont.

We are innovative, creative, quirky, expressive, inventive, green, beautiful, successful, transforming and free.

During the 16th annual South End Art Hop on September 5 & 6, more than 600 artists will display their work in over 100 studios and business locations. Enjoy the discovery and the surprises as you happen upon impromptu gatherings, jam sessions and fun activities...as well as an outstanding selection of art to buy.

You’ll find a very special juried art show, an artist designed mini golf course, a wild fashion show and...more great art to buy.

Come visit us and see what we do. Introduce yourself to some of our many business owners who have opened their doors to help make this event possible. And, please thank our sponsors, contributors and advertisers, whose support allows us to present this event.

Explore and discover what the South End of Burlington has to offer... And, did we mention? Buy some art!

How to See it all

With over 100 different places to see the art of almost 600 artists, it’s going to take some planning to get the most out of Art Hop ’08. So, how do you do it? Here’s what to look for...

The Map

From the internationally known Burton Snowboards on Industrial Parkway to the infamous walls of Nectar’s on Main Street, we’ve plotted the stops you’ll want to make on your travels. Studios, delis, warehouses, offices, hallways, green spaces and any other structure or area that can support art is indicated.

The Sites

There are 57 numbered sites (many representing several individual places). We’ve listed their designated number, their address and phone number for your convenience, as well as the hours they’ll be open for you to see their art. The letters AHF and AHS represent “Art Hop Friday” and “Art Hop Saturday” (September 5 & 6) respectively. Most of the sites have public hours during the week (M-F) and many have weekend hours (Sat/Sun) as well. Can’t see it all in one weekend? Come back at another time!!! Lots of art will be hanging around all month. In doubt if a site is open or not? Give’em a call!

The Sponsors and Advertisers

The mission of SEABA is to fuse art and commerce.

Nothing exemplifies this more than the four weeks of Art Hop.

But it doesn’t just happen and it doesn’t happen without expenditures. Art Hop could not have sustained and grown for fifteen years without the support of culturally conscious community members and forward-thinking business owners. If you see their name or advertisement, in our Program Guide, or in our website, please thank them when you get a chance. They need to hear it... from you!

Many sites and locations around the South End will be hosting parties and social gatherings. Please be considerate of your hosts and our neighbors... Party Arty!
